Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh Honours Top Talent with Scholarships and Celebrates Audition & Assessment Day

Phnom Penh, June 12, 2023 Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh (SISPP) is thrilled to share the successful outcome of its Scholarship Audition and Assessment Day at Raffles Le Royal on 6th May 2023. Initial interviews, assessments, and auditions were carried out at Raffles Hotel Le Royal, followed by a second round of assessments at the school’s Flatiron campus. The wait is over! Results have now been released and welcomed by the families of successful applicants.

The event was an excellent opportunity for the school to identify and reward children in Cambodia with exceptional talent or potential in Academics, Performing Arts, Sports & Swimming. SISPP has granted full and partial scholarships to some outstanding candidates. The scholarships are awarded based on merit and reflect the school’s commitment to excellence, diversity, and inclusion. The scholarship programme is part of the school’s commitment to provide a holistic and high-quality education accessible to all, regardless of their background.

The event was attended by His Excellency Mr. Dominic Williams MBE, the British Ambassador to Cambodia, who praised the scholarship winners and endorsed SISPP’s vision and mission.

Principal Toby Waterson explained, “Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh is committed to a scholarship programme that will not only identify children with outstanding potential to flourish at the school but will also give opportunities to children from a diverse range of socio-economic backgrounds. I was very encouraged to witness the scholarship applications for this current round of scholarships; we had a high number of applications and the quality of applicants was generally strong. Finally, we have been able to award five FULL scholarships and ten HALF scholarships. Previous scholarship awards saw three FULL and six HALF scholarships awarded, so this represents a growing interest in the school and recognition of the premium quality of education that we are offering to children in Cambodia.

These exceptional candidates are

1) Doung Samnang Carney- FULL (Academic)
2) Pisey Korng - FULL (Academic)
3) Jixiang Yang - FULL (Performing Arts)
4) Sophea Mealea Sok Nowaczyk-FULL (Performing Arts)

I am grateful to our investor partners for seeing the value of this program and supporting the school in establishing sustainable and genuinely life-changing scholarships for children in Cambodia. Additionally, we have introduced a new bursary programme in recognition of the fact there are families who have particularly limited financial means and therefore may need additional support to sustain a place for their child at the school.”

Mr. Waterson continued, “Though the Academic category was the most popular, we were very pleased to have applicants in all categories and to be in a position to award FULL scholarships in each. A Shrewsbury education is about developing the whole child’ and performing arts, sports and swimming are key elements of the curriculum.”

Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh is currently accepting applications for children aged two to five for places at their Flatiron campus for August 2023, and for children up to twelve years of age for their Primary campus which will open in Chroy Changvar for the 2024-25 academic years.
